TextWrangler
I have no idea why I didn't
include TextWrangler a long time ago. I
think I started using this not long after I got
my first Mac. The editor is great and is
basically a freeware version of the awesome
BBEdit from BareBones. TextWrangler is used I guess to
try out new functionality before rolling it out
to the their paying customers of BBEdit, to make sure they work
100%.
TextWrangler has an awesome query files feature that I keep going back to, even when using other editors. TextWrangler gives you complete control of every aspect of the text document.
If you need a text editor there is no need to look any further, unless you miss some features in which case you could check out the list of text editors at Wikipedia, with a separate section for Mac-only text editors.
